The movie took an insane amount of work sense Mike asked Scott to help him with the movie in 2000. With a lot of time, money and creativity the two friends idea has become a reality.
"Mike Stewart and I entered our movie, 'Fire,' into the Cinema Paradise Art and Film Festival. Mike said we didn't have a chance at winning, but he said if we did win he would eat his words like a bag of potato chips. And going up against 27 films that had nothing to do with surfing," Carter said.
Amongst the silence of the audience and the people saying it gave them the chills watching the movie Carter felt they made an impact.
"Well Mike called and said he was eating his chips because 'Fire' won the film makers award. Finally validation for all of the hard work," Carter said.
Working on the movie "Fire" was like a dream and a nightmare, Scott said.
“Together we have the ability to make the most soulful and powerful surf films that could easily become an Imax movie. No problem, but we both bodyboard, so finding investors to support our movie is close to impossible or lets just say we both went broke trying to make it. Plane tickets, camera gear and film processing is very very expensive. But with our creative minds and abilities we would be making the best selling surf movies of all time. I will claim it too. I am proud of our work. We just need investors and a team that is working for the same goal. Mike is one man I am one man making movies and you need a team of like five people to make the golden nugget.”
People are going to take notice of this movie. Investors will come and money will be made. Too much work has gone into the movie not too and from judging reception of the movie at the Hawaiian film festival it will.
It will be a profitable movie for the next generation of wave riders.
“It's not surf porn. It’s not like all the other surf related movies. It’s not a quick fix, it’s an experience. It's more of a looking glass into the true connection and rhythm of the sea we know is there, but sometimes do not hear or see. Being a wave rider is a gift. We want to wrap it like a present and give it to all those who are less fortunate and don't get a chance to see, feel or hear the rythym within the sea. Riding a wave truly is the greatest thing man will ever do, well unless your an astronaut that gets to ride the first wave on another planet, and then I will eat my words,” Carter said.
When it comes down to it this movie is going to turn heads. It features Mike Stewart.
“Mike is a unique fish, an alien type and his skills as a wave rider are unmatched. He is a legend of legends, and through him, in his dance we share his ride,” Carter said.
And see it in “Fire.”
