Rider Profile: Omar Leon

Omar works for No Friends Clothing. You may of heard of it. You may of Not (and if you haven’t you are not a bodyboarder in the know).

He is a 23-year old out of Chula Vista, CA. My older bro got me into it when I was 6 years old ( 17 years ago ) but started competing/traveling and focusing on my riding a lot about 8 years ago. How did you get into it?

I use to live right across the street from the beach in Imperial Beach and my older bro would take me out everyday after school.

What board do you ride?

I currently ride a custom board shaped by PMA. He shapes the best boards!

What are the dimensions?

They are very similar to his personal board on the Unit-X line, self named PMA board. Just made a bit bigger for my big Mexican ass.

Do you ride prone or DK?

I do both, depending on the conditions.

Do you compete at all?

I have been competing for 6 years. Mostly in the Bodyboarder International Association (BIA), 1 pipe event, some contests In Baja and Costa Rica.

If so how have you placed?

First year I was crowned tour champion of The Men’s Amateur Division placing in 4 finals out of 7 events in the BIA. Second year came in 2nd over all in my division placing again in 4 finals out of 7 events. The following years I placed in a few Amateur Divisions and made one pro final. In Costa Rica, I competed in the National Surfing Championships and placed 2nd.

What was the best session you have ever had?

Wow...ummm, that’s a tuff one. I've had lots of good sessions, they really don’t have be days were I am busting big tricks but having fun with my bro and friends at our home break.

Off the top of my head it would have to be this wave we surfed the first time I went to Fiji. It was called Mini Cloudbreak and only myself and five friends were out.

Who do you usually ride with?

My younger bro Richie and some of the boys from IB.
